MINUTES OF MEETING ELECTRICAL CODE BOARD
DATE: Monday, 22 September 2008
TIME: 4:00 P.M.
LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Rm. A
CHAIR: Dan Hamel.
PRESENT: Dan Hamel, Bob Schmidt, Paul Uhlrich.
ABSENT: Jim Dixon, Ron Mueller, Elaine Reiss, Kevin Pfohl.
STAFF: Steve Neyens.

Dan Hamel called the meeting to order at 4:07 P.M.
Bob Schmidt moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and
to except them as typed. Paul Uhlrich seconded and the vote was a unanimous yes.
Correspondence:
Staff reported on status of State of Iowa electrical licensing program: No action was taken.
Staff read through the corrections that the legal department wanted made to the ordinance
changes proposed by this board at its last meeting. After some discussion Paul Uhlrich
moved to except the corrections to the proposed ordinance changes and Bob Schmidt
seconded. Dan Hamel called for a vote on the motion it was a unanimous yes.
Unfinished Business:
The discussion from the last several meetings was continued on other possible changes to
the electrical ordinance to fit better with the new state rules and blend the requirements of
the International Fuel Gas Code, the International Building and Residential Codes with the
National Electrical Code. The specific changes created, discussed, and reviewed at this
meeting are as follows.
LABELING OF SERVICES. All permanently installed electrical service panelboards
and switchboards are required to be labeled as to their use by article 408.4 of the NEC.
This labeling shall be expanded to include the name of contracting company (installer)
and the contact information for same and shall be installed at or on the main electrical
service panel.
Additionally it will list all of the following:
a. Locations of all accessible bolted grounding connections to any metal water service
piping.
b. Locations of all accessible bolted bonding connections to building steel and all other
metal piping systems (gas, sprinklers, etc.).
c. Approximate locations of all buried ground rods, if installed.
d. Location of all accessible bolted grounding connections to reinforcing steel in
foundation, if not concrete incased.
Irreversible (compression, exothermic, etc.) connections are not required to be accessible.

Announcements: All Future Electrical Board Meetings will be in Conference Rm. A.
The room is reserved from 4:OOpm till 6:OOpm on the following dates, Nov. 24, 2008, Jan. 26,
2009, Mar. 23, 2009, May 26, 2009, July 27, 2009, Sept. 28, 2009, and Nov. 23, 2009.
Motion to adjournment made by Paul Uhlrich, Bob Schmidt seconded, vote was all in favor.
