Proclamation BVM 175th Anniversary 2008 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, were both established 175 years ago; and WHEREAS, for 165 of those years, the City and the Sisters have shared a common history here in Dubuque; and WHEREASover those years the City has shown the BVM congregation , continued affection and respect; and WHEREAS, the congregation has returned that affection and respect through spiritual, educational, charitable, cultural, and community service; and WHEREAS, both the City and the BVMs continue to search for ways to continue this long, creative relationship through initiatives, which participate in the city’s commitment to viable, livable and equitable sustainability. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 26 THROUGH NOVEMBER 1, 2008, AS: TH “SISTERS OF CHARITY BVM 175 ANNIVERSARY WEEK” IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND URGE EVERYONE TO JOIN IN EXPRESSING OUR GRATITUDE TO THOSE WOMEN WHO HAVE AND CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR CITY IN SO MANY WAYS.
