Van Milligen, City Mana FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City En ineer ~~ 9 SUBJECT: Alley Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Project between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street to Hamilton Street (CIP 7101799) DATE: INTRODUCTION October 14, 2008 The enclosed resolution provides for the acceptance of the construction contract for the Alley Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Project between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street to Hamilton Street. BACKGROUND The Alley Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Project between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street to Hamilton Street involved the replacement of approximately 780 feet of 6-inch clay pipe with 8-inch PVC from the intersection of the alley between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street extending to the northeast to the intersection of Hamilton Street. The original 6-inch sanitary clay pipe had many offset and broken joints that caused a maintenance problem. The project was awarded based on a competitive quotation process for public improvements in accordance with Iowa Code, Section 26.14. DISCUSSION The Alley Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Project between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street to Hamilton Street was completed by Top Grade Excavating, Inc., in the final contract amount of $72,962.64, which is a 2.74% increase from the original contract in the amount of $71,016.78. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and authorize the payment of the contract amount of $72,962.64 to Top Grade Excavating, Inc. for the Alley Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Project between Lincoln and Rhomberg and from Marshall Street to Hamilton Street. The recommendation of the City Engineer is approved and the Project is hereby accepted. Section 2. The Finance Director is hereby directed to pay to the Contractor from the Alley -Rhomberg/Lincoln Sewer Capital Improvement Project appropriation for the contract amount of $72,962.64 less any retained percentage provided for therein as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573.
