Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting of
September 25, 2008
Present: Vice President, Beverly Kolz, Secretary, Kristen Smith; Paula Connors, David
Hammer, and Elizabeth Leeper
• August represented 17 percent of the fiscal year passing. Expenditures were at
17 percent and revenue is at 17 percent of projections.
• Work on the FY 2010 budget has begun. The focus of the budget requests will be
on staffing levels for the renovated facility. Staffing will be critical to operations
in the renovated library.
• Circulation increased 3 percent over the same time last year and can be attributed
to Dubuque residents. Both Adult and Children's print materials increased 3
percent in circulation which is significant. Circulation of lap top computers for
in-library use has nearly quadrupled year to date.
• Number of visitors to the Library represent a one percent increase over last year at
the same time.
• Don Friedman has joined the Maintenance staff and will work on a part-time basis
to cover Sundays and Monday afternoons when we do not have a maintenance
presence. Don will also be able to fill in during vacation and at times
maintenance staff may be off due to illness.
• Danielle Day begins work on September 22 as the new Youth Services Manager.
• A pre-bid conference is set for Friday, September 25. This is an opportunity for
potential bidders to tour the building, review prints, and ask the architect,
engineers, and construction management firm questions.
• The Iowa Library Association Conference will be held in Dubuque October 15 -
17th. Attendance of 600 is expected.
