Honorable Mayor, City Council and City Management,
My name is Fred Gross and I live on 2997 Deerwood Circle. I travel to my business via Coates Street on a daily basis and I
am sending you this email to make you aware of the amount of trash that is being tossed along Coates Street on a regular
basis. This street is one of the most beautiful areas in Dubuque when it is not cluttered with so much trash---garbage, beer
cans, beer bottles, etc,----last year someone threw a number of dead deer carcasses into the creek at the bottom of Coates. I
have attached some pictures for your review that I took today I 1-15-08. If possible please discuss at your next city council
meeting.
Some ideas to consider:
1. Installing street lights along this area of Coates--it may deter people from throwing out their garbage.
2. Have regular cleanup by city workers or possibly boy scout troops, volunteers, etc.
3. My neighbor and I cleaned up the entire ditch on both sides last year from Brunskill to Coates--we had 1 full pickup load
of garbage. As you can tell by the pictures the ditches are again full of trash. I would be more than willing to help with the
cleanup, but I do not have a truck or the equipment to pick up and haul away all of the brush, garbage, beer cans, etc. to the
landfill.
