DALMC Bob Bennett Award_Randy PeckBob Bennett Recogniation for Good Faith in Collective Bargaining Randy Peck City of Dubuque Merle Duehr, Jr. Steelworks Union Local 1861-U Randy Peck has served as Personnel Manager for the City of Dubuque since 1979. He has exhibited good faith as he represented the City of Dubuque in facilitating collective bargaining agreements with the Dubuque Police Protective Association, Dubuque Professional Firefighter's Association, International Union of Operating Engineers, Teamsters Local Union No. 421, and Teamsters Local Union No. 421 Bus Operators. He was also a founding member of the Dubuque Area Labor Management Board of Directors. Randy is a skilled negotiator and patient communicator with a great ability to compromise. Throughout his years of service to City of Dubuque and the members of its bargaining units. Randy has worked with on single goal in mind, the betterment of this community. While everyone knows the negotiations can be complex and difficult, that underlying goal has earned him the respect of those with whom he has worked over the years. Randy has a bachelor's degree in sociology and master's degree in public administration. He is a member of the local United Way executive committee and also volunteers at the Maria House, Crescent Community Health Center and St. Raphael's Cathedral. Randy and his wife, Nan, frequently open their home to international students from Divine Word College in Epworth. Steelworkers Union Local 1861-U Merle Duehr, Jr. served as the Business Representative for the Steelworkers Local 1861, there he was the Chief spokesperson for the negotiating of numerous labor agreements and has been a Union advocate for over 50 grievance arbitration heazings.Also, he was the lead organizer fora 30 member security unit at the Dubuque Greyhound Pazk and Casino Now Merle has taken the position of Chair of the Board of Trustees and Director of Operation for the United Steelworkers Pension Fund. He has moved to Philadelphia to oversee the operations there. He will be the fifth chair since the trust fund was established in 1953. He has served on the Board of Trustees since 1995. While in the Union he held many position such as Steward, Chief Stewazd, Trustee and Vice Presidents. Also, he has served on the DALMC Board of Directors as the Secretary and Labor Co-Chair. Merle is skilled in communication, organization and labor agreement bargaining. And has received the AFL- CIO Community Service Award in 1996 and the United Way Labor's Community Service Awazd in 2005. He was born and raised in Dubuque and is married to Mazgie Duehr, and they have eight grandchildren. In his free time he likes to ride Harley Davidson. Merle Duehr, Jr.
