The Dubuque City Council met in special session at 4:00 p.m. on August 2, 2017 in
the Grand River Center, 500 Bell St.
Present: Mayor Buol; Council Members, Connors, Del Toro, Jones, Lynch, Resnick,
Rios; City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Brumwell
Also present: Assistant City Manager Teri Goodmann, Assistant City Attorney
Maureen Quann
Mayor Buol read the call and stated this is a special session of the City Council called
for the purpose of conducting the annual goal setting session.
GOAL SETTING

Facilitator Lyle Sumek lead further City Council discussion from the 2017-2022 plan
and five-year goals nos. 3-8.
The session focused on discussing and ranking the objectives, challenges and
opportunities, and actions for:
Goal 3: Livable Neighborhood and Housing: great place to live
Goal 4: Financially Responsible, High-Performance City Organization: sustainable,
equitable and effective service delivery
Goal 5: Sustainable Environment: preserving natural resources
Goal 6: Partnership for Better Dubuque: building our community that is viable, livable
and equitable
Goal 7: Diverse Arts, Culture, Parks and Recreation Experiences and Activities
Goal 8: Connected Community: equitable transportation, technology infrastructure,
and mobility.
During discussion, the City Council broke for dinner from 6:05 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
There being no further business, upon motion the City Council adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
