Proclamation Special OIympicsPROCI AMATION
WHEREAS, January 14-16, 2003 is time set aside to host the Special Olympics
Iowa Dubuque Winter Games; and
WHEREAS,
these three days are filled with winter sports events where over 250
mentally challenged athletes from around the State ice skate, ski and
snowshoe in an Olympic form of competition; and
WHEREAS, the over 250 athletes range from 8 years old to 60 plus and truly
exhibit a youthful energy and enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS,
the events are held at the Dubuque Five Flags Civic Center and
Sundown Mountain with the opening ceremonies at the University of
Dubuque's Quad and the Victory Banquet Dinner at the Dubuque
Greyhound Park. The Olympic Village is at the Dubuque Inn; and
WHEREAS,
Dubuque is extremely proud to host this very worthwhile competition
and extends a sincere welcome to all competitors and their family
and friends.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JANUARY 14 THROUGH 16, 2003 AS:
'SPECIAL OLYMPICS IOWA DUBUQUE WINTER GAMES TIME"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have

THANKS for forwarding the text from the 2000 proclamation. The updated
proclamation text is attached. We would love to receive it formally at the
January 6th council meeting. Two copies would be sweet!
The primary contact remains Paul Gorrell at 925 Patricia Ann Drive. He had
hip surgery yesterday, so I'm picking up some of the slack.
