Proclam Martin Luther King DaysPROCI AMATION
WHEREAS,
on Sunday, January 19, 2003 our community will celebrate the
birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning with a gathering at
Jackson Park at I P.M. and a walk to St. Patrick's School for an
address by Rev. Tony A. Montgomery, Sr. and the NAACP
Exposition of Talent; and
WHEREAS,
on Monday, January 20th, the Eleventh Annual Martin Luther
King, Jr. Birthday Breakfast will be held at the Loras College
Alumni Center at 7:30 A.M. with the theme, "Dubuque, Dr. King's
Neighborhood," and
WHEREAS,
human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability. It comes
through the tireless efforts and persistent work of people willing
to be co-workers with God; and
WHEREAS,
we must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is
always ripe to do right; and
WHEREAS,
we who have been the inheritors and witnesses of this dream
have a responsibility to keep alive his ideals as we work on the
unfinished agenda for a just society in the 21St century.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SUNDAY, JANUARY 19 AND
MONDAY, JANUARY 20, 2003 AS:
"DA YS OF GREAT CELEBRATION IN
HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING"
I URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN IN KEEPING HIS DREAM ALIVE BY JOINING IN
THE CELEBRATIONS OF JANUARY 19 & 20, 2003.
