7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Street Historic District. StyleNear: c.1904-05, late Queen
Anne style, reflects basic forms found on 115-16 Alpine, wood shingled gable front, pedimented by
virtue of a projecting shingled base, a special feature is the use of symbolic eaves returns within the
pediment, the gable front projects deeply beyond the main front wall plane and caps a three-sided bay.
A gable roof partial width porch with round columns is to the side of the bay, there is a side square cut
oriole at the stair landing on the south side. There is a centered gabled wall dormer on the north wall.
That wall is vertically divided between floors by a concave beltcourse of wood shingles.
Physical Description: Rectangular plan, two-story gable front form. Core near square plan (37 deep by
26 width) with front 3x15 left hand pavilion/wing. Stone foundation. Right hand side front porch (8x11).
Alterations: re-sided with asbestos siding below the eaves line, south porch addition. Permits note
conversion to a duplex in 1955 ($390), re-siding in 1967 ($800), porch deck replacement, new porch
footings and repair in 1983, and a new side porch roof of the south side (1994).
Landscaping/Setting: Shallow terrace setting.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Special Significance;
Original Owner/Builder: Irving and Mae Lobdell residedat 427 Alpine as of 1906-08. Irving was a clerk
for Farley-Loetscher Co. Irving Lobdell owned the property when it was sewered and the sewer tap
dates to June 14, 1904.
Building History: Daniel E. and Alys Maguire lived here 1911-21. He was a lawyer. F. L. Poole owned
the property when it was sewered and the sewer tap dates to September 4, 1915.
