7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. StyleNear: 1901-02, Queen Anne, plan with
matching three-sided west bay and south oriole, eaves are deeply projected and are supported by very
heavy bracket/modillions. Porch wraps around south part of plan to south and west and features a
turret-topped corner and a projecting gable roof entry wing, the porch is supported by columns with
Ionic capitals, rounded dormer and paired Italianate window set (south dormer) are of special interest.
Physical Description: Core is cruciform in shape, 50x24. Wrap around porch is c.1910 alteration,
resided (aluminum), south addition (wing) over garage. Stone foundation.
Alterations: Permits note re-roofings in 1966, and 1995 (same for porch and turret, 2000), building an
attached garage (1971, $1,000), adding an addition above the garage (1978, $14,334), re-siding 1995,
replacing back landing, 1998, replacing porch columns, rails 1998.
Landscaping/Setting: house actually fronts on Langworthy Street, there is a moderate terrace and there
is a flagpole on the southwest corner.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: Edward A. and Mildred K. Buettell were the first listed residents, 1903 as 365
Alpine. He was president of Buetell Bros. (toys and sporting goods). Curiously the address does not
appear 1903-1908, although the same family was here at least through 1921.
Building History: house, The sewer tap dates to November 13, 1906. John and Neva Buettell
inherited the property in 1943.
