7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. Style/Year: 1913-15, Craftsman
Style, broad overhanging eaves, overall form, stucco exterior, window bands on lower front might
reflect Prairie style influence and centered porch rooftop cast iron balcony might represent a
Mediterranean style influence. Battered corners.
Physical Description: Rectangular plan (28x38) with elongated hip roof,
side wing (17x10), rear porch offset (10x13), front porch 5x8. Stone foundation.
Landscaping/Setting: On terrace, reached by steps to west.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: George W. and Louise Fretter were the first listed residents here in 1918 (351
Langworthy). They came from 87 Burch (1915). George Fretter built this two-story frame house for
$6,000 in 1913 (Telegraph-Herald, December 26, 1915).
Building History: Ira G. and Nell Whitney lived here 1921, no 1918 listing. William and Ann Gallogley
were the next owners (they died quite recently. The sewer tap dates to April 20, 1915 (Susan
Campbell).
