7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. Style/Year: 1920 (Assessor, from original
owners) Craftsman style foursquare plan, embodied in the upper sash pattern, and the decorative
battered porch pillars.
Physical Description: This two-story hip roof square core plan (26x28 with 4x19 rear wing) has
surprisingly modern and simplified lines. The chimney is centered on the east side wall. There is a
single-story centered east porch wing (16x9’6”). There is a wood water table and a broad belt course
set between the floor levels. All window sets include three windows. There is a centered front porch
with brick base, a projecting vestibule, and highly ornamental pillars. The exterior is clad with narrow
siding.
Alterations: Permits note re-roofings in 1940, 1997.
Landscaping/Setting: The site has a moderate terrace setting and the driveway is to the east of the
house.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: Hugh and Anna E. Stuart were the first residents here 1921. He was a lawyer.
The 1955 Assessors Card identifies same as original owners.
Building History: The Edward Langworthy Estate owned the parcel when it was sewered, the tap dates
to November 16, 1920.
