7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. StyleNear: c.1898, Shingle/Colonial
Revival, former embodied in the dormer cap and rounded roof on the rounded bay/half tower, and the
stair landing oriole, the latter represented by the bulls eye window, recessed second story corner porch
and the main porch, both having tapered Doric columns.
Designer/Builder: Thomas 1. Carkeek, architect.
Physical Description: Core plan (36x30) is two-story side gable with centered rounded bay and an
exquisite Shingle-style combination rounded roof and rounded dormer cap. The main porch infills the
northeast corner. A recessed porch is in the upper northwest corner and wraps around to the front of
the east side wall (38' depth, 15'frontage). The wood shingle roof remains (finials), and the gable fronts
are also shingled, the exterior is clad with narrow siding. The foundation is stone. A curious absence is
that of a water table in either stone or wood.
Alterations: Two-story solarium addition on the southwest corner. Permits note a re-roofing in 1993,
building a 22x24 garage 1994 and an in ground pool in 2000.
Landscaping/Setting: This is a large level lot, the house fronts north. Garage at east center of parcel,
driveway to east.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Special Significance; the Collier family built the house, buying the parcel in 1882 from James
Langworthy, it was built next door to the Robert Collier/ Collyer house (1084), this one was to house
son James Collier, the family was involved in lumber and fine woods,
Original Owner/Builder: Current owners indicate that James Collier was the original owner. House
construction was completed in 1898 but this has not been confirmed.
Following directory listings found:
[;]1877, R. H. Collier, manager, Laflin & Rand Powder Co. (as 606 3rd)

James Collier was a proprietor in Carr, Adams & Collier (Caradco) and the house showcases that
company's products made from fine woods including oak, red birch, birdseye maple and pine. The
