7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. StyleNear: c.1880/1899-1900?,
Italianate/Second Empire, former embodied in the massing, brackets and bay/tower, latter vaguely
represented by mansard tower roof. Colonial Revival rounded entry porch with column supports on
brick piers.
Physical Description: Two-story brick core (46x27) with hip roof, front and east wings (latter pedimented
gable, 4'6"x20, 6'6"x17), paired brackets support broad eavesline, plain lintels (set flush), and sills
(projecting), stone foundation with plain water table. Rear wing 12x22.
Alterations: Two east rear windows replaced and reduced with single opening. Permits note re-roofings
in 1940, 1967, 1991, and back porch in 1999.
Landscaping/Setting: Large lot somewhat higher on west and south ends, house fronts south.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: Reeder and Anna R. Langworthy were first listed at this address, 1901-03. He
was a realtor. They resided at 583 West 3rd as of 1896. No earlier listings for this address were found.
Building History: appears on 1889 birds eye view. Edith Langworthy here 1918-21 with William
Wallace, 1921. No sewer data found. John and Dorothy Chalmers own1940-69.
