7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: 1910 (Assessor
agrees), Neo Classical style (hip roof, asymmetry, shingled gable fronts), Neo Classical style front
porch (c.1910).
Designer/Builder: August Wodrich designed the floor plan.
Physical Description: two-story brick rectangular plan (40’ deep, 32’ wide, side bay rear 2x14, porch 27’
frontage, 20’ depth.
with a front wing offset to the right. The entry is on the inside corner of that wing and there is a square
recessed porch above on the second floor. There is a shallow three-sided bay on the rear of the south
wall, with a projecting gable roof dormer (same on front wing, both are shingled and have concave
skirts down to the cornice. The brickwork is plain. Window arches are of gauged brick voussoir jack
arches. There is a raised stone foundation. The porch with flat roof has plain frieze and cornice, round
columns and brick piers and covers the front, south three-sided bay and gable roof wing, rear porch on
northwest corner.
Alterations: porch as noted. Permits note re-roofings in1933, 1980, alterations 1974 as two-family
dwelling, duplex converted to single-family 1990, railings 1996. Porch renovation 2003
Landscaping/Setting: Level back yard, raised terrace corner lot, fronts east, concrete steps on east
front. High stone retaining wall to west (Highland).
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Special Significance; Henry and Augusta Wodrich House
Building History: The Wodrich family owned it until 1989. It was tri-plexed during the 1930s. The
Spencer family purchased in 1990 and restored the house (1991 Old House Enthusiasts House Tour).
Ruth Adele Wodrich owned house as of 1971.
Fred Weigel owned the parcel when it was sewered (no date) and when it was platted (1894), the tap
dates to October 3, 1910 which corroborates with the building date of this house.
