Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: post-1894, pre- 1909/1921 (Assessor), Queen Anne style two-story frame house design (octagonal front tower, side bay, overall massing and roof configuration, lost rounded front porch). Physical Description: rectangular plan (37x25, rear wing 7x19’6”), front wing (6x13) with rear extension, three-sided two-story plus attic east side bay (2’6”x10) with three-sided roof dormer cap, rear east-side entrance, front four-sided half-tower with four-sided cap, hip roof, rear and front-right chimneys. Front door exits onto porch roof. Porch measures 6x12. Alterations: side porch behind east bay removed, metal canopy on entrance, resided with asbestos siding, rounded one-story front porch replaced with flat deck with metal posts and metal canopy with same posts on second floor. Concrete deck and metal railings. The façade clapboard has been exposed recently. Permits note re-roofings in 1939, 1977, 1996, re-sided 1939, outside stairway 1952, front porch alterations 1964, deck and exterior alterations 1991 ($7,000). Aluminum siding on façade only since 1986. Landscaping/Setting: stone retaining wall to south of house at back of lot, fronts north. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; Joseph and Elizabeth Chaloupka, he was a retired railroad engineer, are said to have built the house in 1918 and lived here until 1972. Directories confirm this for 1918-21, obviously house is older than 1918. Original Owner/Builder: John V. Conzett appears to be at this address prior to Chaloupka? Building History: this building and another to the east replaced a duplex that occupied the whole parcel. Julien’s Journal (May 2000, p. 22) dates the house to 1921? Says it was duplexed in the 1980s (Assessor says duplex as of 1971). Angela Ecks owned it as of 1998. C. A. Berg owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1889. th First directory listing is John V. Conzett, dentist, at 40 14 in 1896, remaining through 1915. 9.
