The Five Flags Commission meeting convened at 4:33 p.m. in the Manager's office at Five Flags
Center. Chairperson Mike Brannon presided.
Minutes of February 19, 2001 meeting were approved.
There were no additions or deletions to the agenda.
Acting Manger Jamie Blum said that at the present time the Five Flags Center does not have a
marketing plan. Former Manager Carole Barry did a lot of networking at the IAAM Conferences. We
plan to have a web page designed soon that will be very helpful in marketing the Five Flags Center.
Gil Spence added that when the new manager is hired, he or she would be doing more with
developing a marketing plan for the Center.
Gil Spence and Jamie Blum met with the local group representing the new hockey team with the
Minnesota Hockey League. Gil said that the meeting went well and another meeting will be set up
in the near future to get into more specific details about renting the building and special requests
needed for the games. Steve Sesterhenn asked if there was anything the Five Flags Center should
do differently with this organization. Gil said maybe we need to step back and relax. Flexibility will
help. This organization is anticipating playing a few more home games than the Saints. They are
optimistic for attendance, hoping to attract 1200 fans.
Cindy Fuller added that the JV Tournament the first weekend in March went very well. Attendance
for the Allstar Game was great with attendance for the other games a little lower than anticipated.
Jamie added from a building stand point the tournament ran very smoothly. Rod Bakke wanted to
extend appreciation from the Commission to Cindy Fuller for all the work she had put into making the
tournament a success.
During information sharing Jamie stated that we had a really good February with revenue $10,000
over estimated projections. The Home Show was very successful with attendance up for all three
daYs. The Sterling BrOthers Circus was not quite up to the standards the Center is use to. There
were some problems and the Center would not likely bOok this circus in the future.
The Center has a busy week coming up with the last Dubuque Fighting Saints game, two meetings,
School Chorale, Wahlert Musical and the Dog Show. We plan tqj~eJL~ after the School Chorale
on Thursday.
