Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: c.1881-82, post-1872, pre-1889, Second Empire style (true mansard roof, highly ornamental, turned corner tower). Physical Description: this is a diminutive Second Empire plan, nearly square (core 36x27) with an angled square cut full-height southeast corner tower (8x6). The mansard roof has an eaves line base and cornice cap. There is a curious dormer arrangement on the front, with a two-part gable portion with voussior arch and a square dormer. Straight broad stone lintels are employed on the core openings. The tower front has an infilled middle area, perhaps a stone infill, while windows have double rowlock brick arches (these run from spring stone base to base). At the attic level a stone surround defines three square art glass windows. An original porch (7x17) survives on the front and the trim work, of Eastlake style, is of singular quality. There is also a fine classical frieze that caps the second floor of the tower. There are two sequential two-story rear brick wings (L-plan in center, 32’ deep, 19 wide at rear, surrounds 9x17 north side enclosed porch), as well as a single-story wing (12x26). Alterations: an early image is needed in this case, the tower has lost its top and suffered other changes, it is possible that the front attic dormers are alterations, an attic level deck has been added on the south side wing. Permits note remodeling of five apartments and re-roofing 1986 ($107,000) and the demolition of a 20x30 barn in 1988. Landscaping/Setting: high terrace setting with no apparent rear access, fronts east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; Frank Jaeger was vice president D. C. Glasser Co. 1896, vice president and treasurer John Ellwanger Co. and worked with the A. G. Jaeger Co. in 1899. Original Owner/Builder: Frank/Francis and Catherine Jaeger Building History: Frank Jaeger owned the parcel when it was sewered (no date). Directories place Frank/Francis and Catherine Jaeger here as of 1883 (lives at 1351 White 1880-81) and he remains through 1899. 9.
