7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1915?, 1930-40,
elongated two-story brick Colonial Revival residence.
Physical Description: rectangular core 20’6x51, with rear off centered wing 10x21 (rear bay on same
2x13), centered entry, symmetrical fenestration, upper level centered second door with sidelights, triple
hip roof dormers, side gable roof wings (east end with rounded arch openings), 1.5-story west wing with
end chimney (12x14), east wing (14’6”x13’6” (rear porch on same 10x6). Flat window jack arches.
Alterations: post-1950 garages and annex with connecting brick shed roof wing, incorporates pre-1950s
double garage closest to house. Permits note a re-roofing in1995 (back only), porch repair 1949,
adding a side brick garage 1971, addition 1979 ($16,126). Two fireplaces sealed off 1969.
Landscaping/Setting: raised terrace in front of the house, ground rises to the west, bluff front
immediately south (descending), fronts north.

Building History: Andrew and Frances McDonald own pre-1955 to 1968.

Directories list James H. and Sarah Wallis 1915-21. He was 4 Ward Alderman. Dr. Lafayette and
Janet Fritz (surgeon, Guthrie & Fritz) were here 1923-29+. The Wallis family was at 983 Oxford in
1921.
