7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. StyleNear: c.1897-98, Modified
Gothic style (gable roof through cornice cross gable).
Physical Description: broad two-story frame side gable duplex T-plan (front rectangular core, 36x26)
with shared centered rear two-story wing (27x28), raised stone foundation, twin octagonal ground level
bays on front corners, single centered entry with gable roof bracketed portico, symmetrical fenestration
with narrow windows, west shed roof bay (recent). Southeast corner porch measures 5x14. Corner
bays measure 8'6"x9 with thickness of 2'6".
Alterations: duplexed by 1950, aluminum siding. Permits note re-roofings in 1938, 1944, 1995, porch
removal 1941 , change two-family to four family residence 1942 ($75), soffits and fascia 1979,
alterations 1984 ($7,800), erect enclosed side porch 1984.
Landscaping/Setting: raised terrace corner parcel, elaborate and massive stone retaining wall to east
with battered front, fronts south.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: John C. Bracker first directory listing, lived in 6411899-1903. Edward F. Rutt
was here 1904-21. David A. Putnam lived in 649 1899-1901. Charles and Margaret Gibbs were there
1915-29, Herman J. Jaeger was here 1937-45, Robert O'Neill lived here 1960-72, and Audray Yarnell
was here 1975-80+ (Biays Bowerman research).
