7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. StyleNear: c,1897-98, Queen
Anne style,
Physical Description: very conservative massing with nearly square hip roof core with front gable roof
bay (first) wing, two-story porch infill on the southeast front, two-story gable roof rear wing and rear
porch on the northeast corner, and two-story east gable roof wing (at back of east side wall), There is a
centered gable roof bay on the fayade-its pedimented gable front features a singular motif of brackets
and a grill infill above them, The southwest corner (ground level) is cutaway, The entire second floor
wall base below the sill level is covered with a broad band of fish scale shingles and the base of the
band flares out. The same shingle treatment and base are employed in the other gable fronts,
Classical detailing survives in a frieze in the front gable apex, Raised stone foundation, wooden water
table, corner boards and original clapboard exterior, Diminutive corner porch inset into corner at east
wing front. Complex T-plan, west rectangular core 14x43'6", centered east wing 12x14, East bay
(4x14), recessed southeast corner porch (12x7), front bay (4'6"x10), attached rear shed northwest
corner (12x8), corner porches in front of east wing (4x4, and rear of same, 5x5,
Alterations: west entrance added when made into apartments, two air conditioner holes cut into side
wall. Permits note re-roofings in 1952 (half), 1976 (part), 1997, convert single family to two-family 1946
($90), remodel interior, windows and porch 1988 ($10,000),
Landscaping/Setting: low front terrace, corner location, fronts south, new iron fence on rear east side of
parcel.

Original Owner/Builder: George A. and Carrie Fifield, he was a bookkeeper for Bradley Bros,
Building History: Forrest H, Burris owns 1939-1971, As of 1955, one three-bedroom apartment on
second floor, two sleeping rooms, Concerted to single-family dwelling 1964, Robert and Mildred Jones
convert to same,
George A. and Carrie Fifield first listing here 1899-1922, Forrest H, Burris was here 1942-62, an
apartment was first listed 1954, Robert Jones was here 1963-75 (Biays Bowerman research),
