7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. StyleNear: 1901, 1978-79, Neo Classical
Revival style embodied in the main north entry with Corinthian column temple front with full entablature
and pedimented gable, an in-wall side porch (four columns), stone exterior and horizontal block scoring,
stone faux voussoirs, attic lights with stone frames, cornice with modillions and rooftop balustrade,
Designer/Builder: Williamson & Spencer, architects, Chicago
John Spencer was architect of Frank D, Stout house across the street.
Physical Description: parapet front with temple front entry, rectangular two story plan with raised stone
foundation (basement fully fenestrated) and water table, Belt courses separate floor levels,
Alterations: major addition to east, window replacement. Permits note re-roofing in 1991 ($56,000),
addition and remodeling 1979 ($705,568), remodel reference office 1995 ($37,194),
Landscaping/Setting: prominent corner lot, fronts north, Annex is now the entry,

Building History: the addition cost $705,568 in 1979 (permit), being addressed as 360 West 10th, Sylvia
L, Scott owned the parcel when it was sewered,
Money for library was donated by Andrew Carnegie and land was donated by Frank D, Stout, hence the
Carnegie-Stout library
