Booth St. Residents Letteri~@. ~chaei C. Van ~vliliig~ City Manager
City Hall

Dear Mr. Vo~n Miliigen,
Several of the propeay owners on Booth Street between West 5a Street and West 3r'a Street are not satisfied
wilh outcome of our stzeet reconstruction.
From the start oF the paving fi'om West 5a tv West 3ra Streets, residents noticed thc pitch of thc strect £rom
the center to the curb was too extreme and voiced their concerns to the contractor and the Engineering
Department staff., to no avail.
The sidewalks going down the east ~d~ oz Booth ~treet a.~ ~lat~d ~o~ cads __~ st~ ~t. This is not how they
were prior to the reconstruction.
Because of the extreme pitch of the street fi.om the center to the curbs, aitd the condition of the sidewalks,
we are concerued abont m£ety. Ice accumulations, and drainage problems all contribute to this. Accidents,
whether auto or pedestrian, will muse the city great liability. Other newly constructed streets do not have
this ex-treme pitch and it's obvious this section of Booth Street was not constructed properly.
Some residents concerns about the reconstruction and the impact on their sidewalks and property have been
adequately addressed and we appreciate that. We also are in agreement that we needed a new street and are
gratefid we were selected for reconstruction. However, we also know that it will be a long time befbre the
street is reconstructed again and we are not willing to live with a mediocre street for the next 30 years.
Why should anyone have to pnt up with a new street that is not built to the best standards, especially when
Engineering inspectors were present on the job?
We request that you, the Engineering staff.and a consultant re,Sew the street reconstruction and its sidewalk
components prior to the City Council accepting this project. If deficiencies and tess than desirable
construction are fonnd, they should be corrected.
Respectfully Submitted,
Booth Street Residents,
