7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1889, Italianate style
(bracketed cornice, massing)
Physical Description: two-story rectangular plan with centered rear wing and flanking double decker
porches, raised stone foundation and water table, symmetrical fenestration and paired, centered entries
(transoms with higher lintels than windows), rounded stone lintels with flattened ends, stone sills.
Broad eaves overhand, metal canopy with metal posts and concrete stoop, metal railings.
Alterations: porch as noted, replaces full-width hip roof porch (marks on façade). No permit data.
Landscaping/Setting: level lot, fronts east.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Special Significance; this is one of just a few stone buildings, the rear portion being of stone
construction and of much earlier date.
Sanborn note and inspection confirm that the rear portion is of stone construction (according to 1909
Sanborn) and is of earlier date. Latter also states “Fr. Attic” which in this case implies a lost Mansard
roof although it more likely means “framed attic”, 1889 birds eye view appears to support this.
Grocer/builder William Rebman lived here 1890-99, and built the following in this area:
thth
?two brick dwellings, 40x40 each with L-wings, 28x15, two story bricks, on Bluff between 14 and 15,

?brick block and residence, $13,000 (Herald, December 20, 1883).
thth

November 9, 1873).
1890-1899 directories William Rebman at this address
1884 he is at this address
th
1877 W. Rebman lived at corner of Bluff and 15
James G. Carney owned the parcel when it was first sewered.
