7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1889, Italianate style two-
story brick side gable duplex, style embodied in the unusual jerkinhead front dormer, the narrow
windows and door openings, the elaborate window hoods, the returned eaves, and the bracketed and
denticulated cornice.
Physical Description: eaves continue beyond end walls, end wall chimneys, rectangular plan,
symmetrical fenestration including two second floor former door openings, now windows. Entries
grouped and centered, elaborate cast stone window hoods with spring stones and key stones (1005
Bluff has same hoods), stone lintels have ledge and paired brackets, stone foundation and water table
(façade only, stuccoed on façade), unusual broad jerkinhead roof dormer with shingle exterior and 2/2
lights.
Alterations: basement walkout front doors sealed beneath porch, later date low profile hip roof porch
with brick pillars and balustrade, upper doors transformed into windows.
Landscaping/Setting: low terrace setting, building fronts east.

Building History: G. M. Staples owned the parcel when it was first sewered.
1894-1899 William Marshall lived at 1589
1894-1899 Keachee family lived at 1591
