Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: 1902, Classical Revival (ornamental brick frieze, stone framing on first floor with corner quoins, classical dormers, porch). Physical Description: two-story near square hip roof duplex brick plan with raised stone foundation and double water table, one running at the sill level, the other at the lintel level, with basement window lintels being part of the latter. The ground floor brickwork is framed by a massive stone frame of a thick belt course set between the floors, a thinner one at the sill level, and a quoin pattern at each front corner. The upper story has only the two horizontal lines. Fenestration is symmetrical on the façade and vertically aligned on the side walls, with the front portion of the walls being left blank. The façade has two flanking full height three-sided bays set just inside the corners and these project flush at their tops with a massively broad eaves overhang. The bay cornice is denticulated, the eaves have long thin modillion supports and the denticulation runs all the way around the plan. The twin entries are grouped and centered. A broad two-toned ornamental criss-cross pattern forms a pattern of full and half white diamonds beneath the eaves. Twin elongated, tall yet narrow hip roof dormers are on each side wall and have plain friezes and a denticulated cornice. The pedimented front dormer is centered, has the same cornice and frieze features, and its two recessed window openings have round columns set on either side of their lights. The chimney is centered on the roof ridge. The porch with its denticulated cornice, flat roof and round columns set on brick piers, might be original or it is an early alteration. It runs connects the outside corners of the two front bays. Alterations: porch? Permits note re-roofing in 1940, 1946, 1995. Landscaping/Setting: level corner lot, the duplex fronts westward. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: The Jackson Park Walking Tour links this house with Albert Jaeggi, a Spanish American War veteran who started a rug and drapery business that became the J. F. Stampfer Company. He was secretary/treasurer of the latter firm. He later served as president and manager of the James Levi Store. Edward O’Rourke, manager of the Hub Clothiers mens’ store later lived here. As of 1918-21 the house was occupied by Charles Robinson (363) and William Ellwanger (365). W. W. Carr owned the parcel when it was first sewered. Not this house: Hermann Brinkman spent $200 on an addition to his house in 1881, at which time he th was living at the corner of 17 and Locust. The 1883 directory indicates he ran a grocery and saloon in the city (Herald, December 4, 1881). 1903 C. Robinson at this address, A. M. Jaeggi was at 46 W.
