7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: 1879, Italianate parapet front
two-story brick row house with raised porch, bay, bracketed cornice.
Physical Description: rectangular plan, raised basement (brick), left hand entry with transom, three-
sided bay to right, stone belt course incorporates sill at that level, stone lintels have wrap around spring
stones and unusual broad half-round pediments or key stones, cornice wraps around bay and has
brackets and modillions, porch is Neo-Classical style (c.1910) with rounded tapered columns, open
base and open balustrade.
Alterations: porch as noted, first indicated on 1909 Sanborn Map, replaces shallow porch than came
out to bay front. Permits note re-roofing in 1940, 1975, 1992 (Class A), masonry garage 1948, porch
cover 1982.
Assessor describes original core L-plan 23x32 core with 15x21 offset rear wing, 1949 addition squared
the plan to 38x53 and added rear brick attached garage (34x43).
Landscaping/Setting: moderate set back, parking lot to north, one-story attached commercial building to
south. Fronts west.

Special Significance; D. W. Parker House
Original Owner/Builder: D. W. Parker, Division Superintendent, ICRR, built this brick residence in 1879
for $3,500. He owned the parcel (middle of Lot 159) when the block was first sewered in 1889.
Owned by Curtis Straub Co., was a duplex as of 1971.
