Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1872, Italianate style gable front two-story brick plan with south bay (elongated ground level windows, paired brackets beneath the cornice, rounded attic light). Physical Description: Two-story brick plan (front core, 33x22, rear wing 40x22, side wing 10x17) with raised stone foundation and water table, symmetrical fenestration with side hall plan and right hand entry. Rounded stone lintels and flat stone sills. Double entry (original doors) is topped by a bracketed roof canopy (c.1900). The south bay (10x4) is three sided and has a hip roof. There is a two-story side wing. Alterations: canopy replaces full-width front porch (1891 Sanborn), window replacement. Lower front windows reduced and panels inserted at bases. Permits note re-roofing in 1938, 1950, 1978, rebuild front porch 1944, re-roof garage 1966, interior alterations 1978. Rear attached garage removed 1966 (brick, 18x40). 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: August Christman improved this residence for $5,000 in 1885, at which time he partnered with for J. & A. Christman, dry goods firm (Times, January 20, 1886). The Telegraph-Herald, August 6, 1933 1870s walking tour of Main states “South of Fourteenth street on the west side are several brick houses (still standing) the first occupied by Hon. W. J. Knight, the others by T. P. Rood, C. H. Eighmey and Dr. Asa Horr.” August Christman owned the parcel when it was sewered. 1899 – J.J. Rowan at this address 9.
