W. Carr House Dubuque Name of Property County 1573 Main Dubuque Address City 7. Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: post-1891, pre-1909, possibly Neo-Classical style given use of diamond lights in dormer windows. Physical Description: two-story side gable frame single-family residence plan with broad eaves, broad gable roof front dormer, south end wall chimney, offset front entry to right. Alterations: aluminum siding obliterates integrity and any sense of the original house, eaves reduced, porch replaced, apartment stairs added to south end. Permits note re-roofing in 1949, 1980, adding three apartments to single family brick dwelling 1942 ($1,000). Landscaping/Setting: level parcel fronting west on Jackson Park. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: Developer William Rebman put up a two-story frame house (24x28) for $1,500 on this block in 1871 (Herald, December 12, 1871). He built another one the next year, no dimensions given, th for $700, but it was on the corner of 16 and Main (ibid., November 24, 1872). This building replaced an earlier brick square plan house present as of 1891. th R. Cox built a two-story brick house on Main, three houses north of 15 Street, 32x34, “first class style” for $12,000, in 1868 (Herald, December 13, 1868; January 1, 1869). This was apparently the second th house south from 16 according to the Telegraph-Herald, August 6, 1933. The R. Cox Estate owned the parcel when it was sewered. 1899 – W. W. Carr at this address 9.
