Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements:
Classical Revival style, two-story brick hip roof core, offset front wing with double-decker front porch
(lower level enclosed), pedimented front wing, nice brick fluting on front and unusual use of shorter
raised windows in northwest corner, two-story three-sided bay on front of north side wall, unusual
Corinthian capitals on upper porch, rectangular core plan.
Physical Description:
52’ depth, 21’ width, side bay, front corner inset porch (right), shed roof side dormers, corbelled
chimney cap.
Alterations:
Concrete steps. Porch enclosed and windows reduced
Building Permit Card:
1937 – const one story brick veneered addition – owner: Henry Trenkle-contractor: F. C. Henkels-$450
1939 – alterations to brick dwelling-owner: Mrs. L. Heim-contractor: H. Mueller & Sons-$90.00.

Evaluation:
House surveyed by Kriviskey in 1979, rated “2” as a “virtually intact example of a turn-of-the-century
transitional style”-the house is not recommended as being individually NRHP eligible.
Historical Notes:
The Sanborn Map clearly shows that this house post-dates 1909. The Meyer family apparently
occupied an earlier house on Broadway but no specific address is known. George Friedlein is the
probable builder/owner if this house.
Henry Lippert fell into a 50’ deep cesspool on this property and was almost exhausted when taken out
by rescuers (Herald, April 3, 1896).
Meyer offers 9-room modern brick residence for sale on Broadway Extension, for $1,150 (Herald,
October 27, 1905). Not identified.
Peter Kiehne Jr. owns south half, Peter Kiehne Sr. owns north half of the lot, when sewered 1897.
