Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements:
Italianate style two-story brick side gable, paired bracket sets, side hall plan (left, paired doors, transom
and sidelights), metal canopy over entry, inset keystones, spring stones in brick window arches
Physical Description:
30x22 core, 6x22 porch, very ornate terra cotta inserts as keystones and spring stones, all American
Bond brickwork.
Alterations:
No porch, concrete deck with metal railing.
Outbuildings:
Garage, 1930, 20x18, masonite clad, shed roof
Landscaping Notes:
New block wall, on shelf, fronts south

Historical Notes:
Stemm purchases the property from E. P. Layman for $2,000 (Herald, April 10, 1896) (Layman not
found).

Historical Image Notes:
The 1909 Sanborn map shows the house with a full-width front porch, an offset two-story rear wing with
east side porch and a small shed on the alley (331 West 3rd).
The 1909/36 Sanborn map shows the same, and adds a garage in the back of the lot.
