TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: AmeriCorps NCCC Letter of Support
DATE: January 30, 2018
In 2017 the Four Mounds Foundation and Sisters of St. Francis were primary partners in
receiving an opportunity to work with an AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps
(NCCC) team during the months of May and June. Steeple Square and the City of
Dubuque Park Division were supporting partners.
The NCCC team consists of 7-11 members from the ages of 18-24 including a team
leader. Their primary function is to complete service projects needed in the community
while gaining valuable life experience. Most of their hours in 2017 were spent
completing projects on the St. Francis and Four Mounds Campus'. The Park Division
was a fill in for rainy day projects and NCCC assisted with repairing picnic tables and
removing some invasive vegetation at Eagle Point Park.
In 2018 the Four Mounds Foundation has partnered with the City of Dubuque Park
Division as their primary partner. The NCCC team will split projects between the two
organizations.
Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware recommends City Council approval of a letter of
support to host AmeriCorps NCCC in partnership with the Four Mounds Foundation.
There is no budget cost for this opportunity for the City.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
