H. Thompson House Dubuque Name of Property County 1344-1358 Dubuque Address City 7. Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1889, two-story brick stepped end wall Adams/Federal style duplex. Physical Description: rectangular plan (core 37x46, rear wing of 1344 17x17 with rear enclosed porch 14x17, and 135833x12 with side porch 11x10), raised stone foundation (stuccoed), stepped end walls also at midpoint of plan, double entries are placed at the outer corners of the façade, cast pedimented lintels and sills, paired brackets beneath the cornice (set at corners and above each lintel point), Classical Revival full-width front porch (c.1910), that on the north has a rounded centered bay form and a pedimented side entry, ionic round columns and an open balustrade. That on the south has square pillars and composite capitals, the porch balustrades are stuccoed. Two-story rear brick wings are singularly divided in the center. Alterations: no porch shown in 1891, small end porches as of 1909, porch replacement soon thereafter. The north half has gained a full-length shed roof dormer (1960-61 noted as third floor added). A north end stairway (1963) reaches an apartment on the attic level and the second floor. Permits (1344) note re-roofing in 1942, 1998, repairs 1937, alterations,1937, garage re-roofed 1942 and 1979, rear deck 1997, permits for 1358, note re-roofing in 1938, 1970 (part), 1996 (membrane), eaves repaired 1955, side fire escape 1960, exterior alterations 1960, rebuild front cornice 1998, porch repair 1968. Landscaping/Setting: level lot, fronts west. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: 1889 birds eye view shows with true Mansard roof, is attic element a survivor? Mrs. N. E.
