OTHERS:
1. The meeting was called to order by Chair Gudenkauf. It was announced that the meeting was
being held in conformance with Iowa Open Meetings Law.
2. Carr motioned to approve the minutes of the December 14, 2000 meeting. Kolf seconded.
Motion carried 4-0.
3. A discussion was held regarding the inclusion of radon control in the adoption of the next
building code~ The Environmental Stewardship Committee is in support of adoption of this
measure.
The City of Muscatine and Louisa County will be adopting this legislation July 1, 2001.
Rich contacted ICBO via e-mall to see what percentage of communities that had adOpted the
2000 IRC had also adopted Appendix F (Radon Control Measures).
Mary Rose presented information at the February Dubuque HOmebuilders Association
meeting. The response was mixed. Mary Rose answered a lot of their questions.
Rich recommended that the Board postpone any recommendations until the 2000
International Residential Code is considered for adoption.
Mary Rose clarified that non-licensed contractors can install passive systems. The Building
Department can perform inspections on the passive systems. A certified inspector must

inspect the active systems. Mary Rose will invite the state radon inspector to the next
meeting of this board.
Steve will do research on the cost of iustallation.
4. The next meeting will be October 25, 2001.
5. Kolfmoved to adjourn. Jahus seconded. Motion carried 4-0.
