RE: Lloyd Raymond Haywood Lawsuit
Lloyd Raymond Hayw000d filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the
Northern District of lowa in March, 2018. Haywood named numerous state, county, and
city officials in connection with an arrest and conviction arising out of a domestic
altercation and brandishing a knife while being booked into jail.
Attorney Les Reddick has represented the city officials in the lawsuit pursuant to our
contract with the lowa Communities Assurance Pool.
All of the claims were dismissed by the Court except one against a City of Dubuque police
officer alleging excessive force during Haywood's arrest.
Mr. Reddick filed a summary judgment motion on the remaining excessive force claim
and the Court has granted the motion.
The lawsuit has now been dismissed in its entirety at no cost to the City.
