Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Alexis M. Steger, Housing and Community Development Director DATE: May 15t", 2019 RE: Partnerships and Continued Work in the Community with Rental Property Owners and Renters Work Session Request The purpose of this memorandum is to request that the City Council schedule a work session regarding partnerships and continued work in the community with rental property owners and renters to be held June 3rd, 2019 at the Council Chambers at 5:30pm, prior to the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting. Over the past two years many regulatory changes have occurred for renters and rental property owners. These changes include fee structure changes for rental licensing, adoption of the International Property Maintenance Code, implementation of a tiered inspection system, combined nuisance enforcement, and implementation of the Priority Category. It has been extremely important for all Departments to communicate the changes to those affected and help community members understand what the changes mean for them. Due to this, the Police Department, City Attorney's Office and the Housing & Community Development Department have taken a proactive approach to communication, education and compliance techniques to grow and maintain partnerships with renters and rental property owners. During this work session, the Departments will discuss key partnerships, cooperation, communication, community input, compliance, and the upcoming education and support of this unique population of the city.
