Roll Call: Present: Anthony Allen, Chair Gerald Hammel Nicole Borovic Jay Schiesl, Vice Chair Adrienne Breitfelder Absent: Miquel Jackson Erin Muenster Kate Parks Staff: Kelly Larson Jeremy Jensen, Assistant Police Chief Carol Spinoso Discuss and Respond to Bias Incident On Monday, April 22, 2019, the Police Department received a call reporting multiple offensive graffiti which included some racist expressions that was painted on rock at Eagle Point Park. Commissioners felt it was important that they stay consistent with their response, and to let the community know these things are still happening and let the perpetrators know that we are actively seeking information as to who is responsible and the legal consequences. It was suggested that they reach out to other groups and individuals to push for unified alliance. Discussion ensued on methods of responding to the incident. Commissioner Schiesl moved to proceed with drafting an Op-ed response to the bias incident that happened on April 22, 2019. Seconded by Hammel. Roll call: Anthony Allen Yes Gerald Hammel Yes Nicole Borovic Yes Jay Schiesl Yes Adrienne Breitfelder Yes Motion carried. The Chair asked that commissioners send their input to him by Sunday, April 28. He will prepare a draft Op-ed and email to the group. The Commission will review the Op-ed at a meeting on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. Commissioners should also come with recommended groups/individuals they should reach out to. Adiournment: Commissioner Schiesl motioned and Commissioner Borovic seconded to adjourn. All in favor.
