LibraryBoard ofTrustees Update
From the Meering August 22, 2019
Present: Christy Monk, President; Pam Mullin, Vice-President; Rosemary Kramer,
Secretary, and Trustees, Robert Armstrong, Victor Lieberman, and Patty Poggemiller.

• The Board approved library expenditures.
• The Board updated its by-laws to clarify trustee appointments to the Library
Foundation, 28E Agency, and the Art Subcommittee.
• July marked 8% of the fiscal year lapsing. Expenditures were at 9% and revenue
was at 10% of projections.
• A snapshot of one day of past dues showed that 79.6% of items checked out were
within the loan period, and 20.4%were past due. Although this is 1.2%higher
than the average during the six-month trial period, 79.6 is not unusually high.
Four months during the trial experienced a higher level of over dues as well as
one month this year with fines. Careful tracking of the return rates must continue.
• The month of July was another busy month with increased use seen in nearly
every area. The number of checkouts increased 14% compared to last year with
both print and digital formats up. New borrowers averaged just over 10 new
accounts each day of the month. The number of visitors to the library increased
10% compared to the same time last year. The number of visitors to the Maker
Space increased 133% compared to July of last year.
• During the month of July, the Morningstar Investment database was promoted.
An average of 12 people accessed this resource each day in July. This represents a
92% increase over June. During the past six years, only four months have had
higher use. The average monthly use far the past six years is 147 and use in July
was 148%higher than this average. The promotion was successful.
• Transparent Languages was successfully promoted in June, resulting in a 134%
increase in use—the highest month since introduction. The increase also reflected
a 303% increase in use compared to the entire calendar year of 2018. What is
interesting is that July use exceeded June's total. Use of Transparent Languages is
at 87% of the total for the entire FY2019 and is 402%higher than the entire
calendar year of 2018.
• The digital magazine collection now includes People. This is such a popular
magazine that we are promoting Flipster again for the month of August. We
believe this will attract new users for the digital magazine.
• September is National Library Card signup month. Marketing Coordinator,
Amanda Dolter, is working with Circulation Manager, Michelle Oberhoffer,to
host a scavenger hunt in the community. Clues will lead hunters to various
businesses or locations with the goal of finding hidden books. The book is the
prize as well as membership in the Carnegie Club.
• Eatensive promotion of the WhisperRoom will begin in September. In addition to
traditional marketing, we will have a three-month digital campaign with
OnMedia. Our goal is to take what has been our monthly use during the soft
opening and have that become the weekly use.
