SUGGESTED DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Lead Poisoning Prevention Week Proclamation Supporting Documentation THE CITY OF UB E Masterpiece on the Mississippi WHEREAS, lead exposure to children, particularly those under 6 years old, can result from multiple sources and can cause irreversible and life-long health effects; and WHEREAS, 1.6% of Dubuque's children have blood lead levels greater than the Centers for Disease Control level of concern; and WHEREAS, lead poisoning is preventable; the key is to keep children from coming into contact with lead sources, especially lead based paint; and WHEREAS, there are simple steps that can be taken to protect all family members from lead based- paint hazards in the home, including the City's Lead Paint Hazard Reduction Program; and WHEREAS, the City's HUD Lead Paint Hazard Reduction Program has made 1280 housing units lead safe since 1997 with a total of 1400 to be completed by September 2022. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 20-26, 2019 AS "LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND FURTHER PROCLAIM THAT CITIZENS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE SHALL OBSERVE THIS WEEK BY PROMOTING AND CONTINUING EFFORTS TO REDUCE AND ELIMINATE CHILDREN'S EXPOSURE TO LEAD POISONING.
