LibraryBoard ofTrustees Update
From the Meering December 19, 2019
Present: Christy Monk, President; Pam Mullin, Vice-President; Rosemary Kramer,
Secretary, and Trustees, Robert Armstrong, Greg Gorton, Victor Lieberman, and Patty
Poggemiller.
• The Board approved library expenditures.
• The number of checkouts is up 5%for November, compared to November of last
year. The increase is associated with DVDs, Blu-rays, and digital materials,
which were up between 11% and 13% compared to last November. Computer use
in the Children's Department is up 110% and this represents a new group of
children that come in every day after school and use the computers for three
hours. Adult Services has spent $7,707 to bring the digital collection up to a two-
month wait for titles on hold. We are hoping that not too many bestsellers are
released prior to the end of the fiscal year.
• Past due materials during the past month have been stable. Past dues in the "up to
seven day category"reduced by 4.2%.
• An application for library accreditation was submitted to the State Library on
December 9
• The Board of Trustees approved contracting with Kimberly Bolan Associates to
guide the upcoming strategic plan. The strategic plan will be created in early 2020
and will debut July 1.
• The Relations Committee discussed challenges associated with hiring employees
in this competitive job market and recommended:
o For positions with a Salary Grade of GE-32 and below, the Library requests
that advertising begin within five business days of submission of the
requisition.
o For positions with a Salary Grade of GE-32 and below, the Library requests
that the process of approval after a recommendation to hire take place within
five business days of submission of the recommendation.
The Library Board concurred and approved these guidelines. The Board President
will notify Human Resources Director, Shelley Stickfort.
The Library Board continued the discussion regarding staffing and the loss of
several outstanding employees this year that possessed a great deal of experience.
The board voted to reallocate funding for overtime to upgrade two positions.
