The Dubuque City Council met in special session at 6:00 p.m. on July 23, 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and mandates for social distancing, this meeting was
conducted virtually and aired live on CityChannel Dubuque (Mediacom cable channels 8
and 117.2), streamed live on the city’s website at www.cityofdubuque.org/media, and
streamed live on the City’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofdubuque.
Present: Mayor Buol; Council Members Cavanagh, Jones, Resnick, Roussell, Sprank;
City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Brumwell
Vacancy: Ward One
Mayor Buol read the call and stated this is a special session of the City Council called
for the purpose of conducting a work session on interviews of candidates for filling a
vacancy in the office of First Ward City Council.
WORK SESSION
First Ward Council Candidates Interviews
1. Interviews of Candidates for Filling a Vacancy in the Office of First Ward City
Council: The City Council conducted individual interviews with the candidates (in the
following order) who had filed Letters of Interest and/or Resumes for filling a vacancy in
the Office of First Ward City Council. The candidates responded to questions from the
City Council following conclusion of all interviews. 1. Lou Oswald (unable to participate);
2. Susan Farber; 3. John Pregler; 4. Otto Krueger; 5. Michaela Freiburger; 6. Kevin Lynch;
7. J. Bruce Meriwether; 8. Amy Crow Sunleaf; 9. Steven Baumhover; 10. David Rokusek.
Mayor Buol thanked the candidates for their interested in serving the First Ward and
stated that First Ward residents will have until noon on July 27 to submit letters of support

made at a special meeting of the City Council at 6:00 p.m. on July 27, 2020 and conducted

There being no further business, Mayor Buol declared the meeting adjourned at 7:31
p.m.
