Message: Hello
after reviewing actions items for tonight meeting, I am concerned about item #3 Code of Ordinances amendments, regarding escape
and rescue openings. There are many concerns and questions regarding this ordinance and how it will affect older homes build in
the 1950, 1960, and 1970s. After reviewing the 1961 City of Dubuque building code it only mentions windows in bedroom for light
and ventilation. There is a large block of housing stock both private and rental build during this time. It concerns me that a large
quantity of these homes would be required at great expense to become code compliant or no longer be eligible for renting. I am
requesting the new proposed amendments be tabled or at the minimum be heard through the 3 reading process so all the parties
affected have time to present all the facts to the Council before voting.
Thank you
