Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant Award Recommendation DATE: October 12, 2020 Sustainable Community Coordinator Gina Bell is recommending City Council approval of the Resilient Community Advisory Commission recommendations for the following two projects for funding from the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant Program at a total funding amount of$4,280, which will leave a balance of $20,720 in the Sustainable Dubuque Grant Fund for FY21 for the Spring round. The following applications are recommended for funding: Or anization Pro'ect Amount Free Produce Stand & Community Dubu ue Urban Farm Knowled e related to rowin food $1,780.00 Season Extension Efforts & Community Rescue Mission Garden Knowled e related to rowin food $2,500.00 Both of the recommended projects have taken COVID-19 precautions and can fulfill their grant proposals during the allotted time while also addressing food insecurity. BACKGROUND In 2013, the City Council approved the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant program to catalyze community leaders in the Sustainable Dubuque initiative. The grants are available to any residents, non-profits or businesses who propose a project that addresses at least one of the twelve sustainability principles and includes an element of community engagement or education in their project. $25,000 was allocated for grant disbursement in FY21. $14,262.40 in requests were made this round for FY21. Six applications were received the first round (Fall 2020). All commissioners were invited to submit their individuals scores. The sub-committee made up of RCAC members and myself inet to review the aggregated scores and prepare a recommendation to the RCAC. The recommendation was supported by the full RCAC at the October 1, 2020 meeting.
