Proclamation - Leave Legacy MWHEREAS, the Tri-State Gift Planning Council is a consortium of not-for-profit
organizations and professional advisors; and
WHEREAS, Leave a Legacy is a joint initiative of the National Committee on Planned
Giving, the Tr,-State Gift Planning Council, and local organizations to
promote interest in planned charitable giving through a will or an estate
plan; and
WHEREAS~
Leave a Legacy works hand-in-hand with professional advisors and
nonprofit organizations including social service and civic clubs,
foundations, educational institutions and other religious environmental
and philanthropic groups to encourage planned giving; and
WHEREAS, only 50% of those who pass away have a will. Without a will an estate is
settled according to state laws, regardless of your wishes. Less t.han 6%
of American households have included non-profits in an estate plan, and
WHEREAS, unless people make plans in their estates or wills to leave somethim
charity after their heirs are taken care of, much of the money left
could be taxed by the government; and
WHEREAS,
donors and their family members receive tremendous satisfaction from
making a tax-deductible contribution to a
fund their favorite cause long after they are gone. Leave a
provides a unique opportunity for
making a difference in the Tri-State area.
NOW THEREFORE, I TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBU¢
IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MAY 2001 AS:
"LEA VE A LEGACY MONTH"
