• The Board approved library expenditures.
• April marked 83% of the fiscal year lapsing. Expenditures were at 68% and
revenue was at 120% of projections.
• The library will resume full hours (61) effective June 1. Curbside pick up will
continue. The demand for curbside service has decreased, with April having 120
pick ups but this service will continue.
• During April, Novelist Plus was promoted. At its most basic service, Novelist
Plus is an online database that matches readers and listeners of books to new
authors and titles. The proinotion resulted in the highest use this fiscal year and an
81% increase over the previous month.
• The library van was wrapped using the graphics and theme "Open" from the new
marketing campaign. The work had to be redone as there was significant bubbling
in the final product. The new wrap showed signifieant improvement but some
bubbling appeared recently. The vendor will inspect the application and suggested
that as the bubbling is not extensive, it may be possible to make repairs on site.
Additionally, the wrap design far the material return boxes has been approved.
The wrapping of the three material return boxes (Bluff Street, Eleanor Roosevelt
Middle School, and the Asbury Plaza Hy-Vee) should be completed within the
next month. The van and inaterial return boxes will have one look and theme.
• The Dubuque Museum of Art is hosting an exhibit beginning on Veteran's Day
through February of 2022 on the topic of the Vietnam War. The Library Board
discussed this at their meeting last month and to date, the library has agreed to
partner with the Museum to promote the book they selected to support the
program. The book is The Things They CaYried by Tim O'Brien. The book has
been recognized widely and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National
Book Critics Circle Award. The library will have multiple copies available for
loan and severa] e-books (one copy can be loaded to six Kindles), host a movie I
screening, and a book discussion. The Museum is ananging to have the author I
visit Dubuque. The Board discussed whether to take the partnership further and i
reviewed the possibility of an All Community Reada The topic will be explored I
further afrer follow up with the Dubuque Museum of Art for more information.
• Several grant opportunities are available during the transition time for library
directors. Susan Henricks will complete the two with early deadlines, the
McDonough Foundation and the DRA, and Nick Rossman will complete the one
to the State Library Yhat is administering funds far the American Rescue Plan Act. !
These grants are available to all public libraries up to $5,000. Guidelines and
