Grants
DATE: October 27, 2021
Public Health Specialist Mary Rose Corrigan recommends City Council approval to
apply for two National Environmental Health Administration — Food and Drug
Administration Development Base Retail Flexible Model Grants.
The first grant request is for $7,500 from the National Environmental Health
Administration — Food and Drug Administration Development Base Retail Flexible
Model Grant program to provide staff training on how to conduct and audit the Voluntary
National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards as required by Iowa Department of
Inspections and Appeals contract. Funds would allow Sydney Moquin, Environmental
Sanitarian to attend training. Environmental Sanitarian Tim Link has already competed
this training. The anticipated grant amount is $7,500.00, with no match required and
future opportunity to reapply for funds
The second grant request is for $5,000, also from the National Environmental Health
Association — Food and Drug Administration Development Base Retail Flexible Model
Grant Program to provide funding to state, local, and territorial retail food regulatory
agencies to advance conformance with the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory
Program Standards in effort to reduce the occurrence of foodborne illness risk factors
and implement and attain conformance with Retail Program Standards. The grant
objective is completion of a Comprehensive Strategic Improvement Plan for Food
Establishment inspection programs as required by the Voluntary National Retail Food
Regulatory Program Standards. The anticipated grant amount is $5,000, with no match
required and future opportunity to reapply for funds.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
