JANUARY 2022 DUBUQUE EAGLES "EYES ON THE FUTURE" MONTH
Whereas, in January 2008, Founder and Chairman, Michael Duehr, sat down with Loras Student
Matt Maloney (then President of the Loras Student Body) in a conference room at the Student of
Life Office on the Loras College campus to lay out a vision for college and high school students
who have a passion for service to join a journey to empower people, make a profound
investment in people, to be a resourceful partner with citizenship and to follow their passion to
heed a call to service, to assist young students to further their education, pursue their dreams,
and help those less fortunate; and
Whereas, the Dubuque Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee members include students from
Loras College, Clarke University, University of Dubuque, Wahlert Catholic High School, Senior
High School, Hempstead High School, and N.I.C.C.; and
Whereas, Michael Duehr is Founder and Chairman of the Eagles "Eyes on the Future"
Committee, now in its fourteenth year. The "Eyes on the Future" Committee will hit a milestone
next summer of raising a quarter of a million in its first 14 years of existence; and
Whereas, since January of 2008, the Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee funds for six (6)
$500 college scholarships each year, which totaled $54,000 and includes $100 and a plaque
donated each year to the high school and college teacher of the year; $100 each donated to
Loras, Clarke, and University of Dubuque Student and Education Fund; support and assist five
(5) homeless shelters with over $40,000 donated; monetary donations to: "Reflections in the
Park", Toys for Tots, D.A.R.E. programs (Police and Sheriff), Crescent Community Health
Center, Operation New View, Dream Center, "Sign on for Literacy", heating assistance for low-
income families, Multi -Cultural Center, 2 x 2 Character Development, Prevention of Child Abuse;
Mentor Dubuque Program, Dubuque Boy's and Girl's Clubs, Hillcrest Family Services, Vets
"Operation We Care", VNA's breast cancer screenings and mammograms for women with no
insurance, Salvation Army, Dubuque Humane Society along with treats for the shelter animals,
"Open Closet" as well as services; Area Labor Harvest Food Pantry as well as services;
Christmas presents to ten kids from Hillcrest Family Services who have no place to go for
Christmas; Thanksgiving meals to eleven needy families; put on meals for our Veterans at the
Veteran's Freedom Center; participated in their own "Passion for Service" Days as well as
"Christmas Service Week" Day; and donating money for high school scholarships for five (5) girls
in Malawai, plus much more.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Brad M. Cavanagh, Mayor of the City of Dubuque, Iowa, on behalf of the
City Council, staff, and citizens of Dubuque, do hereby officially recognize the extraordinary and
continued efforts of the Dubuque Eagles "Eyes on the Future" Committee for their volunteerwork
and engaged citizenship and hereby proclaim the month of January 2022 in their honor in the
City of Dubuque.

and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 18t" day of January 2022.
