All -America City Masterpiece on the Mississippi pp zoo•*o 13 zoi720zoi9 TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Miller Riverview Campground Campsite Reservation Fee Increase DATE: January 6, 2022 Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware recommends City Council approval of an increase to campsite reservation fees at Miller Riverview Campground. In an effort to stay competitive and continue to match local state and county campgrounds rates, Marie Ware recommends a new fee structure and increases for Miller Riverview Campground electric sites and dump station fee for non -campers. A non-electric/primitive site would remain the same at $15/night. An electric site would increase from $18/night to $20/night. Dump station fees would increase from $12 to $15 for non -campers. The proposed fee increases were approved and recommended by the Parks and Recreation Commission at their December 14, 2021, meeting. These new fees would go into effect on February 1, 2022, prior to the campground opening for the season. Any reservations before that date would be at the current rates. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval. v Mic ael C. Ware, Leisure Services Manager SUBJECT: Miller Riverview Campground Campsite Reservation Fee Increase DATE: December 29, 2021 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to request approval of an increase to campsite reservation fees at Miller Riverview Campground. BACKGROUND Campsite reservation fees for Miller Riverview Campground were last increased in 2017. A non-electric/primitive site was increased from $12/night to $15/night. An electric site was increased from $15/night to $18/night. The dump station fee was also increased in 2018 from $2.00 to $12.00 for non -campers. All of these fees were increased at that time to better match local, state and county campground rates. DISCUSSION Miller Riverview Campground was open the entire season in 2021 and almost an entire season in 2020. COVID-19 has created a huge influx of people wanting to get outside and do something which has included camping. Record number of camping nights are being recorded due the large increase in outdoor experiences by Americans. In the spring of 2021, Iowa DNR increased their campsite reservation fees. Recently, Dubuque County Conservation Board also increased their campsite reservation fees. In an effort to stay competitive and continue to match local state and county campgrounds rates, I am recommending a new fee structure and increases for Miller Riverview Campground electric sites and dump station fee for non -campers. A non- electric/primitive site would remain the same at $15/night. An electric site would increase from $18/night to $20/night. Dump station fees would increase from $12 to $15 for non -campers. The proposed fee increases were approved and recommended to City Council by the Parks and Recreation Commission at their December 14, 2021 meeting. These new fees would go into effect on February 1, 2022 prior to the campground opening for the season. Any reservations before that date would be at the current rates. ACTION REQUESTED I respectfully request City Council approval to increase Miller River Campground campsite reservation fees as outlined and based on the facts above.
