PITDIMCLAMATION
WHEREAS, 1 in 3 Dubuque residents are at risk for kidney disease and 1 in 7 residents have kidney
disease with only 10% being aware of it; and
WHEREAS, it is critical that attention be brought to this often overlooked, but increasingly common
disease. Major risk factors are diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney
failure and over the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, early detection and treatment of kidney disease could result in fewer Dubuque residents
requiring dialysis treatments or transplantation; and
WHEREAS, the National Kidney Foundation represents Dubuque patients, transplant recipients,
people affected by kidney disease and their family members; and
WHEREAS, the month of March is National Kidney Month and March 01, 2022 is World Kidney Day.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MARCH 2O22 AS
"Kidney Disease Awareness Month"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO TAKE
CARE OF THEIR KIDNEYS AND GET TESTED IF THEY ARE AT RISK.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 7th day of March, 2022.
